Axl Rose, the man, the myth, the legend. Is 2008 finally his year?
Like him or not, Axl Rose is one interesting person and most often he is misunderstood. Some people like to think of Axl as an A hole, but that is just because Axl likes to keep to himself and likes his privacy. Axl does not crave attention or look to make headlines, he gets that with out even trying and sometimes I think that embarrasses him. Just him going out for a steak dinner makes headlines, not many other people in music get that, but Axl does.
A lot of Gn’r fans get upset at Axl because still not given us a release date, but he has said a few times (mtv vmas being the most recent) that Chinese Democracy will be released this year some time in the fall. November looks to be the target date since Richard Fortus has told fans the album will be release after the US tour has started (which officially starts mid October. That is something Gn’r did with the Illusions. This album will make or break his career since it is his first album with out the old band. Axl needs to release the best “in your face rocker” on the album as the first single. If the first single is huge then the album will have no problem selling and being huge.
A lot of old Gn’r fans like to think the new songs we have heard so far are not as good as the old bands songs, but that is not the important question. The important question is, are the new songs as good or better than the current mainstream songs on the radio today? Judging from what is currently on the radio and judging from what was on the Mtv VMA’s the answer to that is YES. I think Madagascar, IRS, the Blues and Chinese Democracy, There Was A Time, Catcher in the Rye and Better are just as good if not better than a lot of the music on the radio right now, and those songs are not even the “big guns” that Axl has in store for us. Better is a style we have never heard before by gn’r and could be a huge hit once we get the studio version.
The four demos we have heard are very different and very good. Better mixes pop with metal, while IRS is a mix of old gnr and industrial music. There Was A Time is very November Rainish and Catcher in the Rye (which features Brian May on lead guitar) is a lot like something from the UYI’s and has a Beatles feel to it. IRS actually charted for radio spins, which is a first for a leaked demo. It also got the most votes for one stations cage match in the history of that station. What is so great about the demos is most people have a different favorite which just shows how diverse this album is going to be and is going to appeal to a wide verity of people. This album will have something for everyone, from the old school fans, to new fans.
For those who think Axl cannot sing any more just needs to listen to these demos, he has never sounded better. If anyone has heard him live from the Hammerstein shows, RIR or the Euro tour know that his vintage raspy voice is also back. His voice has been getting better and better with each show.
He has a set of amazing and underrated players backing him up and they have all worked very hard on this album. The few people that have heard the album have all said how great or amazing the songs are, so if CD is promoted the way it should be it could be the best album of 2006. Axl and his new Gn’r could be on top of the music world again. Just looks at the VMAs this past year. The killers headlined, if gn’r played this year they easily would have been the closing act.
Chinese Democracy is going to be like nothing we have heard before from Guns n’ Roses. Tommy calls the new songs “earth shattering” and Dizzy has said the songs will exceed our expectations. Those statements make me wonder how amazing this album could very well be. Brian May and Tommy have both talked about how outrageous/amazing Axl's voice is on the album. Tommy also alluded that the rockers on CD will be like old gnr, while Zakk Wylde said the songs he heard from CD sounded like AFD on steroids. Axl’s lyrics are said to have deeper meaning than on past albums, we have gotten a taste of that with some of the demo leaks.
Chinese Democracy is going to showcase the new bands diversity and could still be talked about years from now much like AFD is still proclaimed as being just as fresh today as it was 15 years ago. CD is said to be a melting pot album by Axl and I think we will be able to tell what each members input was to each song. I think each song will have each member’s trademark, something they can all be proud of. I am not saying this album will be the best album ever, but I believe it’s going to something that will inspire discussion for years to come. and not only will it serve to cement Axl's legendary status as the ultimate rock star, it will preserve the dignity of the guns n roses name in the annals of rock history
Axl has had a few false starts over the past 6 years, but it is now time for Axl to take his throne back as the best front man in rock, others have tried but none have even come close to having Axl stage presence or aura. Axl holds his destiny and legacy in his hands. He can either be the huge star he used to be or he can just disappear again. Either way Axl Rose will always be one of music great mysteries. He had it all in the late 80s and early 90s and he can have it all again if he wants it, he just has to release the album and everything will fall into place. Rock has been missing something for quite some time and that something is Axl Rose.
Axl Rose...best frontman ever???? Oh come on...you're kidding right??? Axl doesn't hold a candle to guys like Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Steven Tyler, Roger Daltry...the list goes on and on and on...
STEVEN TYLER? Are YOU kidding? I'll give you the rest, but Steven? Please. As for your Slash comment: apparently the world disagrees. Look at VR, and then look at the new GNR. Which one is tanking, and which one sold out every show? Yeah. By the way, it's DALTREY.
who the hell cares? he's an asshole that has fucked up one of the best metal bands ever. fuck him and his dumbass fake dreads. it hurts a little to say that, but it's the truth.
Uh oh, the grammar police is here. Everyone watch your spelling.
The new GNR? Please... GNR is nothing but Axl and his bad weave and botox filled face cackling over some studio musicians. He has run off two GREAT guitarists (Slash and Buckethead).... he even had Zakk Wylde at one time but he left too. Now if all of these amazing artists keep leaving for the same reasons...the problem might be Axl!
Axl was once a great singer, but his voice is not what it was... his stage presence is not what it was... his attitude is horrible... and he was the main reason that THE Guns broke up in the first place. There will only be one GNR...and my friend you are mistaken, this "New GNR" is nothing but a has-been hanging onto the famous name of his old band.
The VR comment...really? The fact that "Contraband" sold millions and was hailed as an amazing album puts them very assuredly in a much more prominent place than the "new GNR."
So in other words... YOU shut up. You may now go sit in the corner.
I never once said the problem wasn't Axl. I'm well aware of the man's mental stability, which is very little. As for his voice: that's a laugh. Have you actually listened to any of the new material, seen them in concert? Do you remember his voice from the Illusions era? It was terrible; the man sounded like a broken, cracked record. His voice these days sounds better than it used to, so we'll just let that comment and it's inaccuracy go. His attitude is horrible? I was under the impression that he has mellowed out compared to the old days, in which he bitched about every little thing.
As for has-beens, you could just as easily point to Slash, who is a mere sell out these days: car commercials, a book, deals with Gibson, Guitar Hero III? Hah. How is he not a has-been? Because he's forced himself so much into mainstream media? Oh, yeah, THAT'S rock n' roll.
And Libertad? What about its sales? They are nothing more than a supergroup, and if Slash and Duff (along with Scotty Junkie Weiland) weren't involved, no one would give a shit anymore. -Much- like the new GNR! How hypocritical.
Sorry, kids. The greatest day in frontman history was the day Mr. and Mrs. Plant welcomed their baby boy Robert Anthony into the world.
One of the saddest days in frontman history? The day some numb-nuts marketing website proclaims an ill-tempered, grinchy-voiced Neanderthal like Axl #1 with a mic.
this is a bad move for dr pepper. u can tell a bunch of suits in a boredroom who have no touch with reality came up with this garbage. HELLO!!!! there is no GNR anymore Axl can call it his solo debut because none of the original members are part of GNR Axl kept the name cus hes so full of himself that album will tank and i hope it never comes out. Remember numbnuts jimmy fallen saying guns n f.kin roses at the mtv awards a few years back. all you got was a facelifted axl and some guys from other bands. THERE IS NO GNR get over it.
G 'n' R does NOT EXSIST anymore. I dont care what the fuck AXL does. Hes an ass. No one likes him anymore. His voice sucks and he will NEVER come out with Chinese Democracy. and even if hes does....its gonna suck ASS
Slash IS Gun's n Roses. Thank you.
BEST FRONTMEN Freddie Mercury David Lee Roth Robert Plant
Well, as a long time and dedicated fan of metal and rock and roll, I have been the first in line to defend the actions and try to explain the sanity of Axl Rose. (William Bailey)
I say, even now, that UYI I&II were two of the best albums I have ever heard. Even to this day, after listening to them a hundred times, I can still find little things within the album I missed. That says alot about the production and songwriting. Which, you gotta give it to him, Axl had the major influence on. As pushy and neurotic as he was, he had a vision that he would see through done perfectly, no matter what the cost.
I recently got the chance to see Axl and his band (I shall refrain from using the title G'N'R out of respect) last year at the ACC in Toronto. In all honesty, after a huge delay starting the show, a long unneeded artistic tribute to the female gender, and yet another long wait on the hard concrete floor on a Thursday night....I must say, he sounded great. Better than he sounded the last time I seen him on the UYI tour. He was still a condasending asshole, but guys, I wouldn't have him any other way. It just wouldn't fit him. I too have heard the recordings from C.D, and yes, they aren't bad. I really hope that Axl puts his perfection and vision into this, because like someone else had said before...there is no G'N'R, yes, but only until Axl says there is. So we wait. Patiently, and making no judgments until the release day. on this day, the world will find out what is so special to one mans heart that it took a decade to forge.
As far as frontmen....I have witnessed many frontmen. I wish I got to see Robbie and Elvis for sure, but I could never say they were better or worse than anyone else. Here's my picks. People I have seen - 1. Axl Rose 2. Johnny Solinger (Shid Row) 3. Vince Neil
Only video footage - 1. Elvis Presley 2. Robert Plant 3. Freddie Mercury
And there you have it. Just one rock fans take on your comments.
No matter what....enjoy and support the true rockers of our time the best ya can. Nobody lives forever, but with enough fan support, their music can!
Are you serious??? Of course his band is gonna sing praises about the album and about Axl. They're on his payroll. That's the problem with Axl, he's surrounded by YES people who do nothing but kiss his ass all day and keep him in this state of delusion. I really hope I'm proven wrong, but judging from the leaked demos, I wasn't impressed with CD at all.
Hello people...just a thought... If you don't like Axl why do you keep wasting your time here? Go find some other band to talk about. One thing I know...this will be the best Dr. Pepper ever and since AXL is sharing his with Buckethead I offer to share mine with him ...he deserves a full one!
HAHAHAHA at the retard who said David Lee Roth was one of the best frontmen. I mean, was that a joke? He can't even fucking sing!
As for Axl being a Neanderthal, Sweet Child, November Rain, Estranged - three of the best songs of all time, who wrote them? Axl. Who didn't want them? Slash. Who's in a bastard child of STP? Slash. Who collaborates with anyone who asks? Slash. Need someone to wear a big taco to advertise your business? Slash. Slash was never Guns N' Roses, if he was VR would be fucking magical, and so would Snakepit.. You only think that because you picked up Guitar Hero III and now you're an expert. Gtfo.
JUST LIKE AXL ROSE SEZ IN LOCOMOTIVE"YOU CAN USE YOUR ILLUSION LET IT TAKE YOU WHERE IT MAY" DAMN A NEW GNR ALBUM CMOM SAVE US AXL FOR GODS SAKE I DONT WANT TO HEAR POISON DO SEXYBACK OR CHRIS CORNELL SING BILLY JEAN!!!!!
Dear People of America, This Musician and i have grown up together and have followed our dreams,we have both succeeded,I make or break a band,There was an attempted to bring him down, but he has risen with Integrity intact! So back the fuck off.Let him release it in his own good time,he hasn't let anyone down yet!!???Has He? Slash check out your tattoo and your Bro,get your arse back in "THE REAL THING" and rock!!!Everyone else go find a well and get some water!!!!!!!!!!!!!der!!
MORO NO BRASIL E AMO O AXL ROSE!!! SONHAMOS COM NOVAS APRESENTAÇÕES DELE, INCLUSIVE COM NOVAS GRAVAÇÕES TAMBÉM! EU E MUITOS DAQUI TORCEMOS POR ISTO! ABRAÇOS A TODOS.
"As for Axl being a Neanderthal, Sweet Child, November Rain, Estranged - three of the best songs of all time, who wrote them? Axl. Who didn't want them? Slash. Who's in a bastard child of STP? Slash."
To the tool bag that belched this garbage on the board... Are you serious? "Who's in a bastard child of STP? Slash."...OK then genius, by your obvious professional assessment of all things musical (sarcasm) then wouldn't Axl just be the bastard child of GNR? I don't see Izzy, Slash, Duff, Matt Sorum, or even Steven Adler or Gilby Clarke anywhere in the mix for this new album. So it looks to me like GNR isn't playing on this album....it's just a washed up singer (who I give him credit...he was great in his time), cackling over some studio musicians and using the famous name of his old band. And also oh Einstein of all things melodic...the only "bastard child" from STP in VR is Scott Weiland. You should know what you're talking about before talking trash.
I do give you credit for the fact that the songs you mentioned are great songs....but who wrote the music and arrangement for them? Slash and Izzy (Sweet Child), and Axl was included on the arrangement of November Rain and Estranged. If you knew anything about rock history you would know that the iconic riff from Sweet Child was a run that Slash used to do while warming up.
So go sit down and let the big boys talk...you, and a lot of others I've seen on here, have no clue what you're talking about when you're talking trash about Slash and the rest of the members from THE GNR.
definitely the best frontman ever. for me, personally, there is no one in his league. has anybody writing negative comments really seen the new gnr play live in 2006/2007? really, really amazing. as much as i love slash, duff etc, but the new gnr sound much better than the old band.
i agree AXL is the best, i also agree about VR they were good on cd but sucked live the new GNR rocked live i saw them in Ma. 2 winters ago, also the new songs kick ass and sounded great live
Oh, great... the pussy who ran with his tail in-between his legs yesterday is back for some more. Seriously, why don't you just fuck off? You've made it obvious that you have no support for Axl or the Axl Rose band (just so you won't go off again like someone actually gives a shit), so why are you here? Go spew your crap on a VR board, alright?
Slash is washed up, he's a sell out, doesn't fucking matter what arrangement or music for whatever song he was involved in: doesn't make him any less of a media whore. And considering he's no longer in the band, it doesn't even fucking matter. Now either get on board or fuck off.
The Dr Pepper endorsement of Paxil Rose is too funny! Just so you know, chinese food and Dr Pepper taste really good together. Give it a try, but don’t get fat like Paxil.
My assessment of Paxil Rose is this. The man was a lot like Fonzie from Happy Days. Gathered the praise of dorks, was a short, needy nebbish who hid behind a facade of coolness and invulnerability. Both dudes, I'm certain were deathly afraid of needles and safety pins (you know, for fear of being popped). While AFD was an album that had half dozen good songs on it, it was by no means Classic. I mean, we ARE talking about a mildly hard-rock-pop-metal album which all it really had going for it was some cursing, in order to grab some desperately needed street cred (which riding on a motorcycle, boasting about your alcohol consumption, and wearing leather pants and hairspray bought you in those days).
As far as UYI 1 and 2 are concerned, all those albums showed was that Paxil was good at taking praise from a bunch of yes-men. He took the Circus/Rip Magazine praise WAAAYYY too seriously and decided he had to make the MOST self-indulgent, MOST self-important, MOST self-aggrandizing piece of poop EVER! And he did! I will give him that, he DID in fact do it!
So to re-cap, Paxil went from a mild Fonzie rebel—to—self-important John Barrymore old-timey movie star wannabe (with CIGARETTE HOLDER, no less!!) –to—isolated, self-styled Norma Desmond lady—to----well, all that’s left for him is Kurt Kobain country, let me get my shovel.
But seriously, folks. I would have a lot more respect for the guy if he would just put up or shut up. It takes a lot more courage to, you know-do whatever it is you claim you can do, rather than just resting on a reputation, and Paxil Rose is showing what a coward he is. --Mike from Boston
I loved Slash as a Member of GNR, but please as a stand alone act or in VR he sucks. Anyone remember the legendary Album "Slash's Snakepit" - of course not because all of 2 albums sold - one to Slash and one to me who was a sucker enough to buy it. After which point I destroyed it because it was so bad - so now there is only 1 in existence - so maybe its worth something.
And Slash's guitar playing on VR's albums sound like someone who just learned how to play guitar yesterday - no one song comes close to any of the legendary riffs and solos that are littered throughout Appetitie and the Illusions - you know why? Because it was AXL ROSE that was tha catalyst for the greatness of GNR - Slash is great - but anyone can learn to play as he does - NO ONE in this world does or ever will sound like AXL ROSE..PERIOD.
And anyone who thinks Axl has lost his voice has never seen any of his recent concerts - and the energy of him singing welcome to the Jungle or Better is greater live than any..ANY frontman in history...Freddie Mercury please...who defined the Freddi Mercury Tribute Concert...it was AXL ROSE...who sang We Will Rock You and the End to Bohemian Rapsady at this concert better than they have ever been sung before....hmmm..AXL ROSE...with all the great rockers on hand that day the torch was handed to the Greatest of them all...today or ever...AXL ROSE
AS for Dr. Pepper...God Bless them...even if Axl goes back into hiding I will always regard DP with the upmost respect for caring about the things in this world that really matter. With all the trouble in the world today - we all long for that escape to a time when we felt free and just wanted to turn the music up and escape to a jungle where nothing else mattered but feeling alive. Axl Rose, as mysterious and unpredictable as he may be, provided this escapism and excitment unlike anyone else in Rock History. Everyone on here is lying if they say at one point in their life they didnt throw on a bandana, a pair of sunglasses, look in the mirror and say "do you know where the f you are...you're in the jungle baby...wake up...it's time to die...."
When I think of Freddie Mercuys I think of the guy who was in a band who was on the soundtrack for the revenge of the nerds movie.
Gotta run...going to buy a Dr. Pepper - every sip I take will hopefully bring me one step closer to Chinese Democracy
""Everyone on here is lying if they say at one point in their life they didnt throw on a bandana, a pair of sunglasses, look in the mirror and say "do you know where the f you are...you're in the jungle baby...wake up...it's time to die...."""
Um, I would be lying then, because I would never admit to doing this. And if I AM lying about this, then I am so so so glad I don't REMEMBER doing something like this.
""Gotta run...going to buy a Dr. Pepper - every sip I take will hopefully bring me one step closer to Chinese Democracy""
Oh god, so what you're saying is that Paxil Rose is going to be driving up diabetes and obesity in this country? Thanks, Paxil...
"Oh god, so what you're saying is that Paxil Rose is going to be driving up diabetes and obesity in this country? Thanks, Paxil..."
Yes, because the fact that most of the country is already obese is clearly all Axl's fault. You're the same guy who called Axl fat, right? Tell me, how is possessing a six pack fat? 'Cause I was pretty sure it was the opposite. (I suggest you check out recent facts/pictures, instead of lamely using the '02 era as reference, before spouting off.)
Take an arena full of people and you will find at least a handful who can play guitar as well as or better than Slash. But, love his voice or hate it, you won't find a single one who sounds like Axl.
I saw GNR live in 2006 (the year I thought CD was coming out, but no such luck). Axl sounded as good as he did at the Ritz in 1988 (one of the greatest rock shows ever, IMO). And the triple guitar attack adds a full, rich sound like no other I've heard before. Lead guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal is on par with Buckethead, both of whom blow Slash away.
As for all you haters: if you don't like GNR, why the f*ck bother posting here? Sheesh.
Axl Rose is THE BEST frontman ever, I understand everyone has their own opinions so if you disagree then why waste your time commenting on a page dedicated to Axl? I think its awesome that Dr. Pepper are supporting him so much, hopefully it will make Chinese Democracy come out soon... very soon...
"""Tell me, how is possessing a six pack fat? 'Cause I was pretty sure it was the opposite. (I suggest you check out recent facts/pictures, instead of lamely using the '02 era as reference, before spouting off.)""""
And thank god those photos of him exist because otherwise I would never known this was the Fat Paxil in '02, which, to be fair, was the last time anyone remembered him.
And to think that 2002 was quite a long time ago is something to keep in mind.
"""Come closer so I can crack a can of Diet Dr. Pepper over your head""""\
Did you just threaten me with a can of diet dr pepper? THIS IS TOO FUNNY!!!!
To be fair, what brought me here was this article I read on Pitchfork Media (an indie rock/alternative rock site--please feel free to walk into what I just threw out there):
Axl Rose is the best front man in history, I do have to agree!!! And has somehow managed to maintain at least the shadow of a private life, even though the pops would like to have it any other way! Way to go man!!! Keep on doin' what you do...and I can't wait for the new album!!!
"in '02, which, to be fair, was the last time anyone remembered him.
And to think that 2002 was quite a long time ago is something to keep in mind."
And that's why every show sold out in '06? That's why every time the man makes a statement its reported everywhere? That's why people are here and other places begging him to release the album?
"Oh, great... the pussy who ran with his tail in-between his legs yesterday is back for some more. Seriously, why don't you just fuck off?"
No, quite the opposite yesterday there junior. I believe it was I who had the last word in our little "conversation." There is no need to run with my "tail between my legs" when I'm obviously dealing with someone who has the mental capacity of a four year old. Besides, why would I go "fuck off" as you so eloquently put it, when I could just stay and talk trash to you and see your pitiful attempts at a rebuttal? I just like to check in and make sure you're still alive and kickin'... :)
With that said, Axl was a great frontman in his day...naming him as the best ever...nah, but I will say he was/is pretty good. What I've seen lately kinda makes it look like his time is fading... not quite on par as his older performances (but then again, none of the great "rock gods" of yesteryear are still on par with their younger years). I give him the benefit of the doubt because of the fact that he is getting up in the years.
I will give the new album a chance and check it out (if it ever makes it to the shelves), but I'm still holding strong that it's got a lot of expectations to uphold and I hope it's as good as everyone thinks it's going to be. It's also still never going to be GNR again. THE GNR was finished in 1996.
I don't care who you are, if it takes 20 years to make a record, expectations will be so high, it will never be good enough for the fans, no matter what band you are! He's re-written the album so many times to fit what was selling at the time, it can never be timeless like their previous records.
Really? I didn't know that, really. And Didn't 'O6 coincide with the popularity of NASCAR? I think so.
"That's why every time the man makes a statement its reported everywhere? That's why people are here and other places begging him to release the album?
Yeah, "other places": E Channel, TMZ, mtv news. WoW!! Didn't Spin or Rolling Stone pull an April Fools joke on everyone with some frontpage story that C.D. was coming out that month or something?
Robert Plant has had a solo career since 1980! In 28 some years...please name me ONE of his solo songs that anyone remembers? Please name me ONE that has entered the billboard top 100.
Greatness for a front man has to be able to transcend people around them who simply play an instrument..as lead vocalist..their singing capability should be able to still draw a crowd...of which...AXL ROSE..clearly has...and Robert Plant never has/had/or ever will.
This goes more than just being a fan of a band...clearly everyone has different opinions on what makes a group special...but in terms of unique qualities of a lead vocalist...no one comes close to AXL ROSE. Case in point...Axl Rose could cover virtually every song out there and make it unique and 99 times out of a 100, better than the original (ala knockin on heavens door, live and let die) on the flip side...name me ANYONE who could take a GNR song and singe Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Sweet Child O Mine, November Rain..etc..etc..etc..and do the song ANY justice? NO ONE.
This is what makes Axl great...past, present, and always.
You can hate him as a person, get annoyed by his antics....but in a crowded arena when the lights go down there is NO ONE who commands the stage and evokes as much raw energy as W.Axl Rose.
Velvet Revolver knows all too well how pathetic it is to try and have someone (even the crack head Scott W.) try to sing Axl's parts...do some research...in the very beginning VR tried to play most GNR songs..and they where PATHETIC at the attempt...hmmm all the bandmates the same...yet the songs sucked...why?....NO AXL. End of Story. Sure slash...your tophat is cool and you seem like a cool guy...but with no Axl on the mic - you're just another guy who knows how to play guitar who could be working at Sam Ash just as easily as selling out Giants Stadium (which you were able to do thanks to one man - Axl Rose)
Thank you Dr. Pepper for encouraging the greatest frontman in history to know fans and soft drinks alike support his efforts.
I agree, Robert Plant probably takes the cake when it comes to the best front men of all time.
To the guy who keeps asking us to name on of his solo songs... Man, you're totally clueless... Robert Plant has left his indelible mark on the face of rock history forever during his days with Led Zeppelin, he has no need to make successful "radio friendly" songs anymore. He makes music for himself now, and when you've got his kind of credentials you can easily get away with that. Kids forming bands in the year 4069 will still be looking at Led Zeppelin as inspiration. Axl...he's good, but not anywhere close to the league that Mr. Plant is in. I think Axl himself would even agree to that.
You only had the last word because you said, what was it? You had already wasted enough time. Why should I bother replying if you're not around to read it? Are you saying that you were lying, that you would have indeed responded had I bothered to reply? Wow. Besides that, the whole comment about me being up Axl's ass was just laughable -- if anything, I was just as critical of him as I was of Slash and VR.
As for my mental capacity, its amusing how I take into account everything that's said, whereas you brush over them if they don't exactly fit into your argument. Aside from that, the fact that you have to resort to trash talking in order to make a point says so much about your character. Good show.
And the anon you were arguing with before? Happened to be right, at least in their assessment of Slash's "great talents". After he left GNR, it's like the magic that was Slash died. Now he's just some mediocre guitar player in some talentless band, lapping up all the attention he can get before his train makes it's last stop.
Nice change of heart, too, by the way. I notice that yesterday you were far too busy insulting Mr. Botox to mention all of that.
I'm out. This has gotten old. Until you come up with a more effective way of arguing (what are you, 19?), "I've wasted enough time here". Have a great day and a fantastic evening as well.
GNR left us in 1996 when Duff, Slash and Matt quit the band. I agree with the guy who is defending Slash, he was GNR. Slash's guitar riffs made the whole GNR sound. No one else is ever going to be able to replicate that sound. Hence this album not being GNR...but Axl riding the coat tails of his old band's name.
To the two guys arguing over Slash's talents. I agree with the guy who is pro-Slash. No matter what you say, ask any kid who is picking up the guitar for the first time and ask him who inspired him to play. 9 times out of 10 Slash will be on that list, you can argue until you're blue in the face against it, but it's true. Slash has solidly put his stamp on rock music there's just no denying that.
The whole Slash's Snakepit thing was only a side gig to pass time and play for himself when GNR was going down the road to breaking up (read Slash's autobiography). It was never meant to be a band that made it big. Velvet Revolver has sold millions of records and sold out worldwide tours in the short time they have been together. So to say they're a talentless band (they are GNR without Izzy and Axl by the way) is ridiculous. I've gotta disagree with you man, the pro-Slash guy has you beat.
i've read most of these comments, and one thing i'm happy about is the fact that people are talking about axl. if you like him or hate him, one thing is for sure, rock and roll could definately use axl rose and guns n roses. otherwise what do we have right now? nickelback, hinder, good charlotte and a hundred other zero talant bands. it's really an embarrasment, what rock and roll has become today. these bands want to write a few hits, make the record companies happy, and keep girls in the stands, along with their whipped boyfriends. i'm not hatin on them, we all have to make money, but their legacy will always be some band that wrote a few catchy songs with no real substance to them, and made a living.
I myself am someone who appreciates it when a great guitar player with an original sound, a rythem bass player, a kick ass drummer, and a frontman with a distinct voice that cannot be duplicated by anyone else (ozzy, layne staley, james hetfield, lemmy, robert plant, mercury, jimi hendrix, axl rose) come together. we don't have a band out there today that can touch what rock used to be. also, rock music has no substance right now. the aforementioned frontmen all wrote awesome, deep, and thoughtful songs. it was art back then, and it is now all about selling records with catchy poppy songs. rock sounds like mariah carey music to me today.
for me, it has always been about the music. i don't care about the relationships with other bandmembers or fans, or bands selling out or getting old. the bottom line is the product that they put on the shelves and on their cd's. axl rose has always delivered a good product. yes, he is impossible, he will tell you that himself, but everything that he has put out has been a success. there are numerous hits on every original guns n roses album, and they are all quality songs.
i myself cannot wait to hear axl's new album, because i know axl will make sure it is the best it can be, whenever it comes out.
as far as the greatest frontman of all time goes, the man gets my vote. the people that have posted have listed all of the greats like robert plant, freddie mercury, steven tyler, etc. these guys are all fantastic, and all deserve to be number one. but remember it is all relative to what you like. we are all different. i myself respect steven tyler, but his music isnt heavy enough. robert plants music with led z was monumental, but i don't think he moved around onstage all that much. d'ya get what i'm sayin? everyone's greatest frontman is relative. i like axl the best because i've seen numerous concerts live and on dvd, and i love how he performs, and how much effort he gives. the man is a cocaine fueled gypsy, running everywhere and hitting all of his notes at full speed. axl has a way of talking to the audience, and getting them to listen when he rants, but more importantly, he communicates the song to the audience unlike any other frontmant. he works the room, like sinatra, or james brown, and does it all in a rock and roll environment. he stares at the audience as if they are one giant person. if you havent seen him, pick up one of the pro shot dvd's that are out there, and you will know what the axl lovers out there are talking about. and no, they are not crazy for liking axl, just like you're not crazy for liking robert plant or whoever else. they are just like you. capiche?
lastly, a lot of people think axl is an a-hole. i can totally see why. if you type axl rant in youtube, you should see the hits you get. he can be hard to work with, impossible to please, and a perfectionist. amazingly this is also what makes him a great musician. what you have to remember about axl is that he had a difficult life growing up. and trust me, i'm not trying to play that card right now, but listen. the guy was sexually molested when he was a child, was forced to go to church all week, had a mother who didnt give a shit about him, and had red hair and freckles, lol. all of that is going to mess you up. when gnr made it big in the late 80's early 90's, it was because of axl and his appeal. slash of course had very much to do with it also, with his great look and killer playing. but people saw themselves in axl. people saw the messed up alienation that he dealt with in his early years, and that continued into adulthood, and they could relate to it.
when you look at it this way, the man is in incredible success and talant. to be able to transcend that miserable life in indiana as a child and teen, take a greyhound bus to L.A., and work his way up onto the stage is really remarkable. guns n' roses is my favorite band because of the music they make. axl rose is my favorite frontman for his distinct voice, deep song lyrics, stage presence, and the ability to turn all of the crap, pain, and anger that he dealt with as a child and teen into powerful music that we will always remember. AXL ROSE IS ROCK AND ROLL.
let me know if you liked my post, agree, or disagree with some of the stuff i said. thanks.
I just looked in the mirror. As instructed, I said "I am lame," but nothing has changed. Axl Rose is still a bratty talentless child and Diamond Dave is still the man to beat!
Anyone who claims no one cares about Axl Rose anymore is a fool. Case and point look at this blog. It has over 60 posts in 24 hours. Not bad for some one one cares about. Look at all the press this Dr Pepper promo is getting. Its getting a ton.
Saying that 60 people posted on a blog isn't saying much. I'm sure there is a blog out there about guessing the smell of some dude's finger which probably has 60 posts on it.
What's ridiculous is that, for all those who say they hate Axl or find him a joke, you still took time out of your day to post your opinion here. If you don't care, why are you here? What's your excuse?
True, and I would never claim that. But I also don't spend or waste my time on websites dedicated to those I have no respect for. There's a reason bored.com exists, as well as dozens of online games.
Who are the f'ing morons who think Slash and Robert Plant did solo projects to create "music for themselves" - Is this why they produced them and tried to sell the CDs to the public...it became only for them because ONLY THEY thought it was good...Robert Plant proved in 28 years of succeeding at nothing post LZ that he is NOTHING outside LZ...Axl's demos already solidify he will accomplish much more than either of those two fools ever had
For any of you fan boys that are longing for the good ol' days, the following quote sums it up: "GNR is nothing but Axl and his bad weave and botox filled face cackling over some studio musicians". It's true, and now along comes Dr. Pepper furthering his already irreversible spiral into lameness.
Mark, we're not longing for the good ol' days. We're longing for the new era of music and the man who is going to usher it along (assuming he has gotten over his fear and will in fact release this damn thing). The old days are over, and frankly, I can do without Slash, which is all people want, anyway. Not once have I read anyone bitch about Duff or Izzy being missing, not really. And hey, Bumblefoot is just as good.
But you and others like you can sit on the sidelines while the rest of us rock out -- we really don't give a fuck; more tickets and cds for ourselves. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
its funny how everyone becomes a critic but unless you had some hand in making the album shut up its not for any of us to decide when it comes out i will be just as excited about it if it doesnt come out for ten years im a fan and always will be if axl was a primadonna who did everything the record company told him to do then he would be a sellout and the music would sound rushed and be shit he has the right to make his music however he wants and fyi slash had nothing to do with naming the band it was axl and traci gunns everything axl does epitomizes the term rock and roll so leave him alone and let him do what he does and appreciate the fact that at least one person still has the balls to be a real rockstar and as far as him being to old maybe he wouldnt have to do it if some of the younger bands would step up and grow some balls and do it for him like they should be but someone has to keep true rock alive and in my opinion i trust the old man over any of these young wannabes and if you disagree its propably because you think bands like hinder are what rock really is but when was the last time we got anything new from them instead we get the same album rereleased a thousand different ways
All for giving Axl the patience to produce the music he wants to..and respect the fact that he doesnt give a shit about what anyone else thinks....but 17 years later...I think the time is now for a release. Hopefully Dr. P will have ignited the spark in him to finally release the album, to realize that there are still millions of fans waiting to jump on board to the greatest music we have ever known.
Look at the music industry today..its crap. There is no originality....Chris Brown is praised at the VMAs for COPYING Michael Jackson (mind you who can't perform because he is too busy touching toddlers)...Rock does not exist anymore..it's all alternative and punk - which produce songs that are catchy at best for a week..and than suck. You have bands like Nickelback which EVERY song sounds the same. Velvet Revolver which SUCKS. On and On...and this is the state of music.
If you ask me the last hope is Axl Rose. Crazy right...but its true. Even his so so performance 5 years ago at the VMAs was the most exiting moment in the last 15 years at the VMAs...when was the last time you found yourself jumping up and down on the couch like a kid again...so excited about the energy coming from the music...so much anticipation for what you were about to see? When? Having witnessed the new GNR in action...they are the only ones who can deliver this. The new songs..Better, The Blues, Madacascar, Chinese Democracy, Catcher in the Rye are simply amazing...and demo versions are better than ANYTHING that has been released in music in the last 15 years. Axl just needs to realize this and put the album out already. He has teased us long enough with his random shows here and there. We want an album to support. We want videos to watch. We want the best frontman ever to re-gain his position as such..pick up the mic once again...and let all of us know where the F we are...as no one else can.
Remember when Vince Neil wanted to kick Axl's ass? That was funny. I bet Vince could've taken him and not even messed up his makeup or aqua-netted hair.
lol, reading all this makes me laugh..... Axl is guns n roses now, and he is one the best front men ever! Slash is one of my favorite guitar players, but not because of VR, the first time i heard VR, i wasn't impressed at all... besides, naming your band velvet revolver is sort of like naming it guns n roses anyways .... a flower and a gun.... hahahaha. i've heard the new G'N'R live in japan, and they kick ass. Axl's new songs are great and have a different sound, but you can't expect every album to sound the same.... UYI 1 n 2 songs sounded different and that's what made the albums great. If you start playing songs that sound the same, who would want to buy them ei. knickelback (yuck). UYI sounded different from AFD and chinese democracy will sound different aswell. there isn't anything good out there right now... what else do you want? chinese democracy? hmmmm I agree that people's expectations will be too high for this album, but as far i have heard (and apperently there' more), i will be buying it (if it ever comes out lol). people call axl an A hole and what ever.... but he's been called that for how long now? his whole carreer? He may be an A hole, but he is talented.... and i respect his talent.... Axl is Gun n Roses
What are the chances of the original group getting back together again,(yes I know it's like two planets colliding) but with Scott Weiland leaving Velvet Revolver recently, Slash, Matt Sorum, and Duff McKagan are kinda free!!! I think a Guns N'Roses reunion would be awesome for a reunion, and they all could release the long awaited "Chinese Democracy" album, kind of the perfect ending to all the bullshit us fans have had to put up with all these years. Sure hope G N'R could settle their differences...
Number one fan, you think you would realize this. The only sort of reunion I could see happening is Slash jumping up on stage with the new Guns and jamming maybe once or twice. -Maybe-. In order for there to be a "real" reunion, Steven would have to be involved. Now, all -other- differences aside (and there are a lot), Axl does not like Steven and will not welcome him back with open arms. Matt Sorum is not an original member, and therefore, would not be included in an "original" reunion.
Although none of them, aside from Axl and Izzy, are original members. Eh, whatever.

Slash made G'N R, without him GNR is nothing.
In other words? Shut up.
who the hell cares? he's an asshole that has fucked up one of the best metal bands ever. fuck him and his dumbass fake dreads. it hurts a little to say that, but it's the truth.
Then why are you here? Seriously, gtfo if you don't like him. That's what Blabbermouth is for.
And you may bite my ass.
Well sir, I would bite your ass...but it would be pretty hard to find it when it's so far up Axl's ass.
I guess it's like the old saying, "You just can't reason with stupid." I've wasted enough time here, you have a good day. Tool.
I'm 63 and still waiting for this album......yeah, it'll come out the day after I die!!
Top 3 are:
1) Elvis
2) Mick Jagger
3) Freddie Mercury
Top three are:
1) Freddie Mercury
2) Freddie Mercury
3) Freddie Mercury
I don't know man, he has pretty appalling fashion sense. Look at the picture you posted.
Best front man ever? No. Best front man alive? Maybe. Mick Jagger and Roger Daltrey are past washed up.
Enjoy your steak dinners, Mr. Rose.
this is a bad move for dr pepper. u can tell a bunch of suits in a boredroom who have no touch with reality came up with this garbage. HELLO!!!! there is no GNR anymore Axl can call it his solo debut because none of the original members are part of GNR Axl kept the name cus hes so full of himself that album will tank and i hope it never comes out.
Thank you.
BEST FRONTMEN
Freddie Mercury
David Lee Roth
Robert Plant
People I have seen -
1. Axl Rose
2. Johnny Solinger (Shid Row)
3. Vince Neil
Only video footage -
1. Elvis Presley
2. Robert Plant
Who gives a shit? ROCK IS DEAD! I vote for free Dr. Peppers though! GO AXL
Best frontman: Maynard.
Then again, I'm completely biased.
it probalby will never be released but i will buy and drink dr pepper just to show support
I'd say Eddie Vedder is the best frontman, but Axl Rose is great.
Hello people...just a thought...
If you don't like Axl why do you keep wasting your time here? Go find some other band to talk about.
One thing I know...this will be the best Dr. Pepper ever and since AXL is sharing his with Buckethead I offer to share mine with him ...he deserves a full one!
Is this seriousely a representative from Dr. Pepper? What the hell is going on?
He's indeed the greatest frontman of all time.
That Dr Pepper thing is hilarious, by the way! ^^
Dear People of America,
This Musician and i have grown up together and have followed our dreams,we have both succeeded,I make or break a band,There was an attempted to bring him down, but he has risen with Integrity intact!
G-n-R only had one album worth a crap, the first one, the rest of them was the usaul record company put out for cash in junk.
G-n-R is done so bring out the 200 other greatest hist albums and the kool -aid drinkers will lap them up boys or old men.
If Axl's sharing his Dr. Pep with Buckethead, then I'll share mine with Slash.
I just wish Axl would release the damn album already.

Ah-hahahaha!! This guy...
Oh god, so what you're saying is that Paxil Rose is going to be driving up diabetes and obesity in this country? Thanks, Paxil...
Come closer so I can crack a can of Diet Dr. Pepper over your head
Axl = GNR.

---Mike from Boston.
Whatever.
The discussion of best rock front man in history begins and ends with Robert Plant. End of story.
Boo on you Axl, you miss the boat my friend..
""And that's why every show sold out in '06?"""
Robert Plant? Are you on Crack?
AXL ROSE IS ROCK AND ROLL.
let me know if you liked my post, agree, or disagree with some of the stuff i said. thanks.
Kudos! Greatest frontman in the history of Rock n Roll. Just watch some of the concert footage from 1986 'till 1990 and you will believe...
I just looked in the mirror. As instructed, I said "I am lame," but nothing has changed. Axl Rose is still a bratty talentless child and Diamond Dave is still the man to beat!
If you believe Axl Rose isn't the best frontman ever, you haven't seen the man perform. BRING ON THE ALBUM....PLEASE!
Wow people still care about Axl Rose? Seriously?
no way is this jumped-up cunt anywhere near best frontman ever.
Anyone who claims no one cares about Axl Rose anymore is a fool. Case and point look at this blog. It has over 60 posts in 24 hours. Not bad for some one one cares about. Look at all the press this Dr Pepper promo is getting. Its getting a ton.
It's getting press because it is ridiculous.
Humour. Sarcasim. Farce.
Found the link from another website.
You cannot tell me that your day is a perfect engine without any frivolous waste of time, you would be lying.
True, and I would never claim that. But I also don't spend or waste my time on websites dedicated to those I have no respect for. There's a reason bored.com exists, as well as dozens of online games.
Eh, to each his own, I suppose.
It's true, and now
along comes Dr.
Axl Rose. NOPE.
good band, yes gnr is ok.
Axl Rose best front man? Nope.
Ian Gillan
its funny how everyone becomes a critic but unless you had some hand in making the album shut up its not for any of us to decide when it comes out i will be just as excited about it if it doesnt come out for ten years im a fan and always will be if axl was a primadonna who did everything the record company told him to do then he would be a sellout and the music would sound rushed and be shit he has the right to make his music however he wants and fyi slash had nothing to do with naming the band it was axl and traci gunns everything axl does epitomizes the term rock and roll so leave him alone and let him do what he does and appreciate the fact that at least one person still has the balls to be a real rockstar and as far as him being to old maybe he wouldnt have to do it if some of the younger bands would step up and grow some balls and do it for him like they should be but someone has to keep true rock alive and in my opinion i trust the old man over any of these young wannabes and if you disagree its propably because you think bands like hinder are what rock really is but when was the last time we got anything new from them instead we get the same album rereleased a thousand different ways
PS. Did I mention F Velvet Revolver
UYI sounded different from AFD and chinese democracy will sound different aswell. there isn't anything good out there right now... what else do you want? chinese democracy? hmmmm
I agree that people's expectations will be too high for this album, but as far i have heard (and apperently there' more), i will be buying it (if it ever comes out lol).
people call axl an A hole and what ever.... but he's been called that for how long now? his whole carreer? He may be an A hole, but he is talented.... and i respect his talent.... Axl is Gun n Roses
Velvet is not a flower, its a fabric, dumbass.
#1 Guns N'Roses fan.
DR. Pepper's people should contact Axl's people, and Slash's people, lol
^ Never. gonna. happen.
